About Rip Curl Surfing mates Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer first began making surfboards in Torquay, Victoria in March 1969 and pretty quickly moved into wetsuits in December later that year. At the time the pair thought it would be a good way to finance the winters surfing at nearby Bells Beach Australia, so they went for it. Today, and still based in Torquay, Rip Curl is an international surfing brand trading across the world and specializing wetsuits, surf-watches, mountainwear, swimwear, boardshorts and apparel. The brand is represented by the worlds best surfers, including current WSL World Champion Gabriel Medina and 3 X WSL World Champion Mick Fanning and continues to sponsor the worlds longest running surfing event, The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach each Easter. It is safe to say that despite its growth over the past 40 years its feet are still firmly planted in the sand.
