Google Authenticator

The Google Authenticator plugin for WordPress gives you two-factor authentication using the Google Authenticator app for Android/iPhone/Blackberry.

If you are security aware, you may already have the Google Authenticator app installed on your smartphone, using it for two-factor authentication on Gmail/Dropbox/Lastpass/Amazon etc.

The two-factor authentication requirement can be enabled on a per-user basis. You could enable it for your administrator account, but log in as usual with less privileged accounts.

If You need to maintain your blog using an Android/iPhone app, or any other software using the XMLRPC interface, you can enable the App password feature in this plugin,
but please note that enabling the App password feature will make your blog less secure.

New User Approve

New User Approve plugin automates the user registration process on your WordPress website.

Typically, the user registration process on a WordPress website is pretty straightforward. When a new user registers, their unique identity is created in the website’s database. An email is then sent to the new user that contains their login credentials. Simple as it can be, but it goes to say that there is plenty of room for customization.

Introducing New User Approve – a new way to register users on your WordPress website.

Here’s how the process works with New User Approve:

  1. A user registers on the site, and their ID is created.
  2. An email is sent to the administrators of the site.
  3. An administrator is then given a choice to either approve or deny the registration request.
  4. An email is then sent to the user indicating whether they were approved or denied.
  5. If the user is approved, an email will be sent to them that includes their login credentials.
  6. Until the user is approved, they will not be able to login to the site.

Only approved users will be allowed to log in to the site. Thus, users waiting for approval or the ones rejected will not be able to login to the site – Simple, straightforward, and effective.

The user’s status can be updated even after the initial approval/denial request. Also, users that have been created before the activation of New User Approve will be treated as approved users.

New and improved user interface
The overall interface has been revised and improved for a trendy, fresh, and minimal look. The latest design includes a whole new look and experience for the layout so your users can have an experience unlike any other.

The clean and easy user interface always helps the existing and the new customers gain confidence in your website.

New User Approve is compatible with WooCommerce, MemberPress, WP-Foro, Learndash, and Ultimate Member.

My Private Site

Allows the Administrator to restrict a WordPress-based web site to viewing only by registered users who are logged on. Any attempt, by anyone not logged, to view any Page, Post or other part of the site will display a WordPress login screen.

Login prompts are provided whenever a non-logged in user (“site visitor”) attempts to access any URL controlled by WordPress on the web site.

Features and Settings

  • Supports WordPress Networks (“Multisite”), with Network-wide Settings planned for a future version
  • A separate Setting is provided for hiding or revealing Site Home without the need to enter its URL
  • Supports Custom Login and Registration pages at URLs different than the standard WordPress Login and Registration URLs
  • Landing Location settings determine what the User sees after successfully logging in
  • Landing Location is set for both automatic Login prompts and the Meta Widget’s Login link
  • New hide-if privacy shortcode allows selective content to be hidden or shown based on login status
  • User Self-Registration settings (varies between Network and Non-Network WordPress) are presented on the plugin’s Settings page for easy access
  • No known Theme incompatibilities, and only known Plugin incompatibility is with the A5 Custom Login plugin
  • Special functionality is included to not hide Login- and Registration-related URLs used by BuddyPress and Theme My Login plugins
  • Remember Me improvements at Login via free companion plugin, jonradio Remember Me, which can be downloaded separately from the WordPress Plugin Repository
  • Overrides WordPress hiding of Network Activated plugins, just for itself; to provide this feature for all plugins, use the free companion plugin, Reveal Network Activated Plugins, which can be downloaded separately from the WordPress Plugin Repository
  • Setting to disable the plugin so that other plugin Settings can be changed when the Site is not set to Private

If you allow Self-Registration, where new Users can Register themselves, you will need to select the “Reveal User Registration Page” setting or new Users will be blocked from seeing the WordPress Registration screen (on WordPress Networks, turning off the Reveal User Registration Page setting on the “Main Site” will prevent Registration from all Sites). For convenience, the WordPress Setting that controls Self-Registration of Users has been added to the Plugin’s Settings page.

Another Setting allows the Private Site feature to be turned off. When the plugin is installed and activated, the Private Site feature is set off by default, to allow the Administrator an opportunity to become familiarized with the plugin’s features and to set the desired settings. A warning that the site is not private appears after first activation of the plugin until the Administrator visits the plugin’s Settings page.

If a WordPress Network is defined, the plugin can be activated individually for select sites. Or Network Activated. In either case, each site will have its own Settings page where the Private Site feature can be turned off (default) or on for just the one site, and a Landing Location defined for each site.

Yes, there are other plugins that hide some or all WordPress content for any site visitor who is not logged on. But when I was searching for a solution for one of the web sites I support, I decided to “write my own” because I knew how it worked and felt comfortable that there would be no way for anyone not logged in to view the site, including Search Engines.

Watch the intro video

Premium Add-ons

  • Public Pages: Allows site operators to designate certain specific pages, or pages with specified prefix, to be available to the public without login. Watch the video
  • Selective Content: Allows hiding, showing, and obscurifying page content through the use of shortcodes. Can also selectively hide widgets and sidebars. Watch the video

This plugin does not hide non-WordPress web pages, such as .html and .php files. It also won’t restrict images and other media and text files directly accessed by their URL. If your hosting provider’s filesystem protections haven’t been set up correctly, files may also be accessed by directory listing.

This plugin is designed to support integrating your WordPress site into your existing identity management infrastructure using a Shibboleth Service Provider.

WordPress can be configured so that all standard login requests will be sent to your configured Shibboleth Identity Provider or Discovery Service. Upon successful authentication, a new WordPress account will be automatically provisioned for the user if one does not already exist. User attributes (username, first name, last name, display name, nickname, and email address) can be synchronized with your enterprise’s system of record each time the user logs into WordPress.

Finally, the user’s role within WordPress can be automatically set (and continually updated) based on any attribute Shibboleth provides. For example, you may decide to give users with an eduPersonAffiliation value of faculty the WordPress role of editor, while the eduPersonAffiliation value of student maps to the WordPress role contributor. Or you may choose to limit access to WordPress altogether using a special eduPersonEntitlement value.

Remember Me Controls

Take control of the “Remember Me” login feature for WordPress by having it enabled by default, customize how long users are remembered, or disable this built-in feature by default.

For those unfamiliar, “Remember Me” is a checkbox present when logging into WordPress. If checked, WordPress will remember the login session for 14 days. If unchecked, the login session will be remembered for only 2 days. Once a login session expires, WordPress will require you to log in again if you wish to continue using the admin section of the site.

This plugin provides three primary controls over the behavior of the “Remember Me” feature:

  • Automatically check “Remember Me” : The ability to have the “Remember Me” checkbox automatically checked when the login form is loaded (it isn’t checked by default).
  • Customize the duration of the “Remember Me” : The ability to customize how long WordPress will remember a login session when “Remember Me” is checked, either forever or a customizable number of hours.
  • Disable “Remember Me” : The ability to completely disable the feature, preventing the checkbox from appearing and restricting all login sessions to one day.

NOTE: WordPress remembers who you are based on cookies stored in your web browser. If you use a different web browser, clear your cookies, use a browser on a different machine, or uninstall/reinstall (and possibly even just restarting) your browser then you will have to log in again since WordPress will not be able to locate the cookies needed to identify you.

Other than the plugins listed below, compatibility has not been tested or attempted for any other third-party plugins that provide their own login widgets or login handling.

Special handling has been added to provide compatibility with the following plugins:

Expire Users

Important security update – if you are using version 0.2 or earlier please upgrade

This plugin allows you to set expiry dates for user logins. You can set a user to:

  • Never expire (default)
  • Expire in X days, weeks, moths or years
  • Expire on a specific date

When a user expires you can:

  • Change the role of that user
  • Replace the user’s password with a randomly generated one
  • Send an email notification to the user
  • Send an email notification to the site administrator
  • Remove expiry details and allow user to continue to login
  • Perform you own actions using an expire_users_expired hook

You can automatically assign expiry details to users who sign up via the register form.

The email notification messages can be configured in the admin settings.

Please post in the support forum if you have any questions, or refer to the documentation, report bugs and submit translations at the plugin’s GitHub page.

Autologin Links

This plugin allows admininstators to generate autologin links for their
WordPress website, logging in visitors under a certain user name. Administrators
can edit (generate and delete) autologin links for users, users can only view
their autologin links. Note that This plugin bypasses the standard
authentication method of wordpress via login and password and should only be
used if you understand the security issues mentioned below and on the
plugin website.

Once this plugin is activated, administrators can generate autologin links on
the edit profile administration pages for different users. Users can view their
autlogin links on their profile pages. Autologin links are of the form:

For more convenience it is possible since version 1.05 to generate login links
directly using the wordpress, site-preview functionality. When viewing the page
while being logged in as an administrator, the top-bar will show an extra item
“Auto-login link”. When pointing at the menu item, a dropdown list will list
all users for whom autologin links were generated on their profile pages. When
clicking on one of the users, a popup will open showing the link that will
automatically login a visitor as the selected user and bring him to the
current page.

Security issues

Since autologin links are meant to be an OPEN way to login to
your website and can be viewed by users on their profile, it might be considered
an INSECURE plugin for WordPress. I did my best to make it as secure as possible
to fit my own needs, but this lead to some design choices which might not sit
well with all administrators:

Autologin codes are saved as plain text. This means that anyone who can
execute queries on the WordPress database (plugins, administrators, system
administrators) can obtain the autologin code for a certain user. I planned an
extension of this plugin where login codes are hashed. However, this again has
the disadvantage that noone can redisplay a once generated login link.

This is the most severe problem. For a full self-assesment of possible security
issues regarding this problem, please visit the
plugin website.

WP Approve User

This plugin lets you approve or reject user registrations.
While a user is unapproved, they can’t access the WordPress Admin.

On activation of the plugin, all existing users will automatically be flagged Approved. The site admin will never experience restricted access and does not need approval.
This plugin is probably not compatible with WooCommerce.

I will be more than happy to update the plugin with new locales, as soon as I receive them!
