Google Authenticator is a plugin for WordPress that provides two-factor authentication using the Google Authenticator app for Android, iPhone, and Blackberry. This plugin adds an extra layer of security to your WordPress site by requiring users to verify their identity through the Google Authenticator app. If you are security conscious and already use two-factor authentication on other platforms like Gmail, Dropbox, Lastpass, or Amazon, then you may already have the Google Authenticator app installed on your smartphone. With the Google Authenticator plugin, you can enable two-factor authentication on a per-user basis. This means you can choose to enable it for your administrator account while allowing less privileged accounts to log in as usual. In addition to the Google Authenticator app, the plugin also offers an App password feature. This feature allows you to maintain your blog using an Android/iPhone app or any other software that uses the XMLRPC interface. However, enabling the App password feature may make your blog less secure, so it is recommended to use it with caution.
