Founded in 2012 by Michael Bruce and Kenny Bruce, it is backed by investors, including venture capital firm DN Capital as well as Neil Woodford, Paul Pindar, and Errol Damelin. Michael and Kenny Bruce conceived the idea of an online property brokerage in 2012. Traditional real estate agents previously handled real estate sales in the UK. The brothers previously led one such company, Burchell Edwards, and believe it is possible to develop a digital, lower-cost model for selling residential real estate in order to reduce the costs involved.
